The Kabalana main point (your home break), is one of the best A-Frames that the country offers. This deep reef break creates a fast hollow right hander and a long 400m left. Kabalana is more a short board wave, which works best between October to May (waves can hold to 8-10ft). For beginners, or those who are looking for less power wave, can always surf in the beach break which is Located just off the main point. Kabalana beach is also known as one of the most beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka.
Barrels, barrels, barrels! Ram’s Named after the legendary Ram, who has a guest house opposite the break. Ram’s is located in a village called Medigama, only 3 miles away from our place, known as the best spot in the south coast for those who searching for barrels. Fast left and right sections over a shallow reef, that is suitable for advanced surfers. The clean barrels holding up to 5-6ft and a 400m ride, which work the best between November to May.
Mirissa bay is located only 10 miles away from our place, it is a beautiful and sandy beach surrounded by palm trees. During the year many tourists arrive here for surfing, snorkelling, whale watching or just to chill on the beach and soak up the sun. This bay offers mid power right-hander over a reef break near the rocks and a left-hander near the harbour. Works really well with a good swell up to 6ft, however the reef can become shallow when the tide is out. Good for beginner and intermediate surfers to build confidence on a reef. The waves here pumping all year long!
Madiha is a small village hidden somewhere near Mirissa, and is located about 15 miles away from our place. In recent years more and more tourists have discovered this magical wave. Madiha offers more than just amazing waves. Diving or just soaking in the pictures view are some of the other things this place offers. The waves here are full of power and break on a very shallow reef that can sometimes remind one of Indonesia. The waves are divided into two different breaks, right and left. The reef on the right-hander is a bit more forgiving than the shallow, hollow left. Madiha usually works between October to May.
Hirikietiya (also known as “Blue Beach”), is a tiny fishing village nestled in an amazing tiny bay, which is located about an hour away from our place. The place got its name because of the clear blue water that makes everyone fall in love at first sight. The break works mainly when the swell is bigger but always has some nice fun long rideable waves. The main break is a fun long ride breaking over a fairly shallow reef with a 500m ride. There is also a nice beach break perfectly suited for beginners. The view from the water is breathtaking and adds a lot to the surfing experience. So it is definitely a trip worth taking. The waves here working all year long!
