CITRA (art in Sinhala) is a place where restaurant and bar sit alongside with independent fashion brands and an art gallery, forming a community of like minded vacationers. The menu (by chef Barak Avital) is seasonally-based, and frequently updated according to the best ingredients available.
CITRA is Kook’s Paradise little sister and she is located only 800 meters away from the villa, right on the main road of Ahangama.

Best restaurant in the south coast! Service was on point. The food is absolutely delicious. Cocktails are dangerously great! My honest goal to work my way at through the entire menu. Thank you for a fantastic experience each time we visit!
Citra is very popular. We stayed up the road from it and tried to book it twice before we finally got a table. Overall it didn’t quite live up to what I was expecting.
We’d read the menu and perhaps built it up in our minds. For starters the Chicken hoppers were tasty but small. Main courses the Golden Curry was surprisingly ungenerous in size. The fish from the market with the cauliflower puree was lovely though and a mush better sized dish.
My son had been dreaming of the Sri Lankan banana and was not disappointed – definitely the dish of the day.
Lovely atmosphere and great service but an expensive meal not helped by our wine choice.
never been to 805 area before to eat or have beer. Yellow Hammer and Earth and Stone pizza share same area. Good selection of beers , pizza good too ,,,minus is no table service
I’m here 4 days and I ate in Citra 4 times already!!
Amazing restaurant, good vibes, amazing people and the food is high level!
Very recommend
Thank you so much for the best food in Sri Lanka !!
Special dishes, great vibes, tasty food
Thank you!!
Definitely gonna come back next year.
It can be hard to have a craft beer and a pizza for under $25 or $30 around here, but it’s possible at Yellowhammer. They regularly have specials going, a wide selection of local beer that won’t break the bank, pretty good service and atmosphere to boot. Two thumbs up.
The food was excellent, amazing taste and presentation. It’s a bit more pricey than most restaurants in Sri Lanka and the portions are not too big but it was totally worth it and we were still full. We had to start the focaccia which was crunchy and the sauces were very tasty and the fish tartare which was so fresh and delicious. As a main we both had fish kebab and the fish was incredibly fresh, perfectly cooked and so soft. The combination of flavours was just amazing. As a desert we shared the chocolate cremeaux and it was to die for! Cocktails were also creative and delicious. Finally the service was impeccable, very attentive staff and the atmosphere is nice. We will definitely come back!
Probably the best restaurant in Sri Lanka! This place is everything I could ask for as a picky type of person with food ! I was surprised how good was the quality of the food . I went with a couple of friends and ordered all the starters and the main dishes . We enjoyed every one of them . Other than the amazing food it has an amazing vibe with very cool people and great cocktails ! Would definitely be back !
Came here for a lateish dinner after hearing good things and fancying something different. Tel Aviv menu interesting.
We’d been told by our hotel that it might be a bit challenging for our kids (12 and 9) but they adored it too. Kids pasta was more than an afterthought and my daughter loved the gnocchi and fish.
My fish kebab on chollah was one of the best things I’ve had in ages – masterful.
Atmosphere was cool but not intimidatingly so, some super hipster young Israelis of course but a mixed crowd and everyone very friendly.
Price was remarkably low for this quality. Best meal of the holiday (and we are brilliantly all trip!)
Ps kids looooved the bathroom, very funky!!!
Citra has all the makings for a wonderful restaurant in Sri Lanka but sadly is let down by a few large obstacles. Firstly the food is served at record speed it’s like dinning in a fast food restaurant, don’t expect a lovely leisurely dinner over nice wine your in and out within 40-50minutes.
I understand staffing can be tricky in Sri Lanka as things are done differently but when you ask for your second course to come not within 3 minutes of finishing your first course and it still does there is clearly a breakdown of communication.
The food is fine, small portions and nice enough, definitely not mind blowing in any way.
We started with The focaccia its more a floury flat bread with no raising agent but the dips were good, the starter of white tuna was very sweet and not spicy or balanced enough and a simple green salad, guys buy a salad spinner please.
The mains of the agnolotti tasted good but the shape is lazy and the catch of the day with very little amount of over cooked veg a lazy cauliflower purée and bad platting was disappointing but I must say the fish was cooked well.
We finished with a banana fritter which was also fine. One cocktail each and a bottle of red all came to just under $150.00
To sum it up, I think if you are from Israel then you’ll probably go as it felt like everyone new each other and a community space for locals from home, a man walked around hugging everyone but if you aren’t it felt a little misbalanced.
We had one of our best dinner experiences at this unique restaurant.
The food is creative, special, interesting and above all absolutely delicious!
The facilities are beautifully designed and maintained, the place feels clean, organized and homey.
The staff and the chef were incredibly nice and friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we have a perfect dinner experience.
Highly recommended – don’t leave Sri Lanka without trying it at least once.
Amazing place, food was very good and fresh, service was great, for sure will be back. A must come when in Sri Lanka
Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and the food is simply stunning. We had tabuleh salad, grilled cauliflower and foccata as starters, and all very awesome. But the main curry fish just made a dream. It was just amazing, no other words. Have to try!
We also had a brownie dessert and also perfect.
We def recommend
ok…so I’ve already eaten in many restaurants on the island of Sri Lanka…Citra is the best of them all…the food is great…even more then great…excellent+, the cocktails are excellent…the service is courteous and professional…the atmosphere is excellent.. The music is delightful… a once-in-a-lifetime experience… I became addicted to the "fish from the market" dish… and the "golden curry" dish…

Great kitchen – we enjoyed the fusion of the two food worlds. Competent and friendly staff met our needs and was at the table whenever needed.
We were recommended Citra for dinner and whilst it was around 10km outside of Weligama it was worth the trip. The grounds and gardens were amazing and great for the kids to run around. The menu looked great – amazing seafood and salads that were super fresh using local produce. Everything was really delicious and reasonably priced. We come from food-snob central – Melbourne – and it stacked up against some of the best dining there. Kudos to their Israeli chef.
Only downsides: staff a little bit aloof, not licensed but you can BYO, and a bit of a drive outside of Weligama. But the food and ambience both sing the high notes – and made it our best meal in two weeks in Sri Lanka. Bravo!
This place is golden…
From the moment you walk through their beautiful arched entrance you know it’s going to be something a bit special.
The decor is beautifully thought out, the lampshades, chairs, glasses… basically everything flows together and makes you feel comfortable and relaxed..
The staff are friendly, welcoming and Uber attentive.
The music is ridiculous which matches the insanely good food.. each dish was absolutely incredible..
We had some focaccia bread for starters which was paired with Tahini and and a tomato salsa.. so yummy!
Then we had fish shawarma and tomato gnocchi .. the shawarma had so many beautiful flavours and each mouthful had to be savoured slowly.. the gnocchi was so soft and the fish was cooked perfectly..
For dessert we had the special which was meringue with cream and a fruit coulis and was the icing on the cake, such lovely flavours all paired together and we also had the fried bananas which had cinnamon crumble, caramel and ice cream again was insane!
Overall the whole experience was perfect, I think the atmosphere paired with the food made it a really special evening and we went home very happy … will definitely be returning!
Thank you to all the staff involved x
